The oenologist’s recommendation

John Ruth, Head Sommelier / Wine Director at the gastronomic restaurant A.R Valentien of the Lodge at Torrey Pines just north of San Diego (www.lodgetorreypines.com) recommends two wines from The Palumbo Family Vineyards in Temecula

-Palumbo Family Vineyards, Viognier, Temecula, 2009: This is an excellent example of the grape for our region with great concentration and body with fair acidity, minerality and stone fruits such as apricot and white peaches in profile.

-Palumbo Family Vineyards, Tre Fratelli, Bordeaux Style Blend, Estate Reserve, Temecula, 2008: This is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. A big wine with plenty of dark fruit and oak. Cassis, leather, espresso, and blackberry with a medium-long finish.
