Bernardus Lodge

A jewel in the Carmel Valley

A 20-minute drive from the Pacific Ocean, set on 26 pristine Carmel Valley acres awash with vineyards and lavender, this luxury boutique-hotel although full of awards and accolades, captivates its visitors for its simplicity and quality of its service.

Bernardus Lodge boasts 57 luxurious guestrooms in nine adobe-village style buildings along a terraced hillside. Inspired by Bernardus Pon, creator of the Bernardus Winery and Vineyard, the Lodge combines exceptional epicurean experiences, with gracious hospitality.

Everyone can find his own rhythm at Bernardus Lodge, and chooses between a vinotherapy Spa treatment, a lunch on the terrace, a wine-tasting session overlooking the landscape, a walk in the lush vineyards and slender olive trees, a play at the alfresco bocce court or a relaxing bath in the warming pool.

Under the direction of celebrity Chef Cal Stamenov, guests can enjoy fine food and wine in the resort’s two restaurants, Marinus and Wickets Bistro, offering Cal-regional cuisine based on local and natural products, such as Maryland Blue Soft Shell Crab with spicy remoulade, home grown organic vegetables embellished with California’s olive oil and aromatic herbs. In addition, the Lodge offers poolside dining as well as scheduled culinary classes and demonstrations.

A stay at Bernardus Lodge is of course an experimental dive in the Carmel Valley wine heritage. Each year, Bernardus Winery produces exceptional wines. Marinus Estate, a Bordeaux-style red wine made of five different grape varieties is the centerpiece. The experienced hotel’s sommelier, Mark Buzan, will spontaneously share with you his knowledge and savoir-faire on Californian wines.
